What We Offer
What
happens when you come to church to worship God? Sometimes it may seem like a
habit, a duty, a routine to be "Taken care" of. In purpose and
reality, it is much more. Lutherans use a form of worship familiar to
Christians since the birth of the Church.
Gathering...
Your joining
in the church's worship begins before you arrive at the church--as you
leave your home and make your way to the gathering of God's people. By this
simple act, you help to claim the promise of Jesus: "Where two or
three are gathered in my name, I am there among them" (Matt. 18:20).
When you
gather with God's people, you are answering a call that originates with the
Spirit of God. As Martin Luther reminded Christians, it is the Holy Spirit
who "calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian
Church on earth, and preserves it in union with Jesus Christ."
Receiving
Christ in the Word...
In the
lessons from the Old Testaments, in the reading from the gospels, and in
the words of the preacher, the assembly hears the Word of God. But proclamation
of the word is not the solo work of the reader or the preacher. You, with
the whole assembly, are asked to listen actively in faith--to listen for
God's command that judges and challenges you, for God's promise that brings
you a new life in Christ.
At any
given service, there is no guarantee that the words of the Scripture or the
sermon will strike your heart with great power or fill you with deep
emotion. A thousand human weaknesses may seem to stand in the way. Yet
faith continues to listen prayerfully, confident that in God's own time and
in God's own way, the Holy Spirit will use these humble human words to
judge and bless and bring you to God.
What
We Believe:
As cited in
The Apostles' Creed:
I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker
of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary;
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father
almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead;
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the Holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
Amen.

need attention and orchestration. Music and liturgy, candle light,
readings, sound, setting and "more" offer interested committee members
with an opportunity to combine tradition and creative change to our
worship services. Members of the committee take turns choosing the hymns
from a book called "Sundays and Seasons" that lists hymns and other ideas
for each Sunday for the current lectionary year. The committee is also
responsible for the nursery attendants for our 5 and under nursery. There
is a signup sheet posted on the door of the nursery, we hope you will help
us in this important service to our church.
